Inmate/Warden:Warden. He is a criminal achimself and saying he is a good guy would be a lie, but after having been left by his partner he felt nothing but burning rage. After being captured and finally reconnecting with Cold he uses the knowledge he acquired being Chronos to aid and protect his friends. He is a living example that you don't need to change everything about who you are to be a better person, and he knows that even those with tarnished pasts can become heroes.
Item: His flamegun.
Abilities/Powers:Rory is more or less a base human. He might be more used to taking a beating than most but that is from life rather than any powers. The abilities he has are in his weapons, a laser rife, power armor and his ever favorite fame gun.
Personality: Mick is as volatile as the fire he plays with. He is an impatient pyromaniac who certainly likes violence. He prefers doing things to sitting around and waiting. He truly loves fire and he views it as the force that reveals the truth. Both in him and in the world around him. He also sees it as a power that can transform and change. He pretends to be an unstable pyromaniac much more than he is.
In the past Rory was ultimatly a selfish character. He followed Cold's lead because he knew that Cold's plans were good. He also expected everyone around him to be selfish as well and when he was proved wrong that started to change his views and he started to develop a code of honor. He did suffer setbacks and betrayal which broke his code of honor. He has learned the hard way how to build something like a code and how fragile they can be. He might be growling and complaining but he will have his team, and on the barge his inmate, back even at a great cost to himself.
Rory is stubborn and will go far to get what he wants. There is a brutal side to him that he likes to show off. He has had a rough life and has learned that being the meanest thing around makes people not come after him. As Chronos he had no limits to where he was willing to go to hunt his prey down. This side has faded somewhat as he has learned to be Rory more than Chronos. He is also furious at being turned into the time masters' puppet as Chronos so he wants to take a somewhat softer side, but some old habits are hard to beat and fire easily burns out of control.
Rory has also recently discovered that he has somewhat of a caring side, even if he does try to hide it. The most obvious example of this is when he knocks out Ray and saves him from dying. For Rory this is a mix of paying his debts and showing people that he will have their back. He tells himself it is to make sure the people around him know that he is a valuable member of the team but in truth it is because he is starting to realize there are people he wants in his life. As a warden he plans to try encourage this side in his inmate.
Perhaps the most surprising side to Rory and the one he tries the best to hide is how much he cares for Cold and how important his partner is to him. After Cold dies at the vanishing point, Rory can't help himself from going and seeing him one last time even if he knows it is risky when it comes to the time line. Even though it was Cold who left him stranded, it was also Cold who brought him back from being Chronos.
When things are calm Rory enjoys a good time. Of course for him that often includes some sort of fire, a beer and maybe even a fight. He doesn't have to be in the fight but watching it and commentating is just as much fun. He doesn't care for book learning, preferring to learn about the real world on his own rather than experiencing it. Having worked with Cold for many years he has a tendency to be punctual, mostly because he expects an earful if he isn't.
Barge Reactions: First and foremost Rory will be shocked and then extremely glad to find Cold. After all getting Cold back is his reason for being on the Barge in the first place. Besides that not much else will shock him. Coming from a world with meta humans and having hunted an immortal warlord through time Rort is familiar with people from different times and cultures. Different species might confuse him as he has not had much exposure to them.
Rory prefers to use brute force, and fire, to get out of most dangerous situations and while he is only human, he is stubborn and resilient. He will have no issue with diving headfirst into dangerous situations. Some of the other situations, particularly those involving happy experiences will get him off balance. He doesn't have a whole lot of experience in that department.
He will greatly enjoy the Enclosure and the ability to set things on fire there without people getting upset about it but it won't be quite the same as real fire.
Having been brainwashed once and had the same people attempt it again, Rory will not tolerate anyone messing with his mind on purpose to turn him into their puppet to do their bidding. He might rail against the way the Barge alters people's minds and he will gladly tell exactly where he thinks the Admiral can stick that side effect of the Barge. But given that there isn't an obvious entity trying to make him a puppet behind it all he will begrudgingly accept it and decide that the pay off at the end is worth it. When he encounters people who the barge has brainwashed he will try to break them of it if he can, which might include locking them up, since that worked on him.
Deal: At the end of season one of LoT, Cold knocks out Rory and dies for him. Rory struggles with the loss of his partner and has taken the deal to bring Cold back.
History:Linked history hereSample Journal Entry:Is there a mechanic on this ship, one that is familiar with guns?
[He holds up his flame gun to the screen.] This got damaged in that last little fun we had and the kid Cold and I convinced to make it is not on board. I've done what I can to fix it but it still doesn't have the same power it used to have. If it falls apart on me I will have to go back to my old methods and trust me, none of us wants that. This little baby is a lot better than that.
Sample RP:The first Rory sees of Cold is a post on the network. It stuns him to see his best friend and partner alive and well. The last he had seen of him was in a bar where he had allowed himself a few words with Cold despite the fact that it could have really messed up the timeline. Before that it had been when Cold knocked him out and died for him. And here he is, alive and well. Rory can't really believe it.
This requires liquid courage. He heads to the pub and lets himself in. Well that is an upside to the job, free booze, as much of it as he wants. He pours himself a glass and sips it while he reads over the message again. Cold alive. Still really hard to believe.
Surprise for you in the pub, partner. He sends the message to Cold, and then waits to see if he gets it. He has no doubt Cold will, his partner is also the smart one of the two of of them, the one with the great plans. Not to mention the desire to be a hero. Part of him still feels betrayed over being left behind like that but that is something he can deal with later. This Cold seems different than the one that died for him, younger, so he has a nagging feeling he is from earlier in the timeline. And if there is one thing the time masters liked to drill into him it was how important the integrity of the timeline was.
Second Sample RP:Rory stops when he sees the monster almost filling the hallway. What the hell was that? Even after having seen his fair share of metahumans a straight up monster like that was new. It was large enough to give the impression of engulfing anything around it. And there were far too many teeth and eyes. With a snarl that sounds like it does not come from this earth the monster turns to attack him.
Pulling his heat gun is more of a reaction than a conscious thought and he aims it straight for what he think is the monster's head. But a thought makes him hesitate, what if this is someone's pet? Some of the people he has met here it wasn't unthinkable. Or worse, what if it was a new inmate. The monster slows as the gun is raised still growling, but it seems to be eyeing the gun as much as Rory.
The soft sound behind him almost escapes Rory's attention, but as the monster looks past him to what proves to be someone else behind him he glances over his shoulder. "Fuck" He mutters to to himself. "Get inside one of the cabins and stay there." He orders, clearly expecting the orders to be followed. He couldn't shoot the monster since it could be someone's pet or an inmate and he also couldn't just turn and run and put the rest of the Barge at risk. Parts of him wants to do just that, screw the rest of them. But that isn't how things worked here and there is a chance that the monster would come across Cold or his inmate and he could not risk that.
He gets an idea. It might not be as good as his partner's more elaborate plans but it is what he has right now and he does not have the time to get creative. He takes a few steps backwards and the monster follows. Good. That is ... well not ideal but it will work. He takes the gun one hand and feels behind him with the other until he finds a cabin door. He glances over his shoulder to make sure it is one of the unclaimed cabins. He pushes the door open and steps inside.
Being stuck in a room with this thing is risky and this whole plan hinges on the monster being afraid of fire. But most things are, there is a certain level of fear that seems natural to all. Well except to Rory. The monster follows him and the cabin is big enough that he manages to manuver so that he is between the monster and the door. It takes time and he hates how slow this feels, but he suspects he'd hate a week in the infirmary more. Once he knows he can reach the door before the monster he makes a dash for it.
